What is chiptuning

What is Chiptuning ( Chiptuning ) ?

Chip tuning is the process of optimising the engine control unit software to improve or adapt it to specific needs. Several engine operating parameters are altered (e.g. fuel injection, ignition torque, turbocharger pressure, etc.).

Technological advances mean that chip tuning is still the only way to reprogram certain vehicles. Nowadays, most vehicles are reprogrammed using the OBD2 socket, or by removing the ECU and reprogramming it on the bench using special adapters (almost all vehicles after 2009).

What is not Chiptuning?

You may have noticed that many companies sell so-called “tuning boxes” under the pretext that it is chipping, WHICH IS NOT CHIPPING. These boxes are simply added to the overall fuel system, which increases the pressure in the fuel system and the duration of fuel injection. This will not be a good way to boost engine power, as it will ultimately affect the life of the fuel pump and of course the fuel injectors. This is not and never will be the correct way to increase power compared to reprogramming the ECU.

The benefits of chiptuning.

Any car equipped with an engine management system can be reprogrammed (petrol and diesel). However, chiptuning gives better results for engines with turbochargers or turbines. Benefits of chiptuning: – Smooth power delivery, which makes city driving much easier with fewer gear changes. – will improve acceleration for faster overtaking manoeuvres. – reduce fuel consumption in diesel engines.
